How to Use a Venetian Blind Safety Cleat
When you raise your Venetian blinds, the pull cords become longer and can pool on the floor or window sill. Loose, dangling cords pose a serious strangulation hazard for children and pets.
Using a safety cleat is a simple and effective way to keep your home safe.
Watch our short video guide above or follow the step-by-step instructions below to learn how to properly secure your cords.
How to Use a Venetian Blind Safety Cleat
Essential Child and Pet Safety for Your Home
Step-By-Step Guide
Step 1: Raise Your Blinds
Adjust your Venetian blinds to your desired height, which will leave you with a lengthened raise cord.
Step 2: Wrap in a Figure-Eight Motion
Take the loose cord and wrap it firmly around the wall cleat using a figure-eight pattern. Continue wrapping until the entirety of the loose cord is gathered.
Step 3: Secure the Ends
Ensure the remainder of the cord is tightly wound and out of reach, leaving no hanging loops near the ground.
Safety Reminder: Safety cleats should be installed high enough on the wall or window frame—at least 1.5 meters (approx. 5 feet) from the floor—to ensure they remain completely out of reach of young children.
